After being incredibly intrigued by the trailer, and the stellar young British cast I have been eagerly awaiting the release of 'Never Let Me Go' for quite some time, but due to all the cinemas in Christchurch being closed this wait was made a little longer. I finally got the opportunity to see it today, and it's safe to say it's a film you will either love or hate.
On the surface, 'Never Let Me Go' follows the lives of three children who grow up together at a countryside boarding school, and along the way become involved in an emotional love triangle. However, Kathy, Tommy and Ruth were created for a pre-determined purpose and although they are aware of this, as they become adults they must come to terms with the inevitable fate that awaits them.
The story is an interesting combination of romantic drama, paired with subtle science fiction and despite it's overall melancholic tone, the film is hauntingly beautiful and moving. Set in the 80's - 90's, the film is also spectacularly shot, making the English countryside dreary yet charming, echoing the mood of the drama. The cast is also excellent in their roles, although Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield were the stand-outs for me, each playing their character with such raw emotion that I felt their connection and could empathise with their heartbreaking situation.
Overall, the film is tragic, but not in a bad way. I thoroughly enjoyed the interesting plot and the fact it left me with so many unanswered questions. It's definitely a film I will gladly see again x

Last weekend Jess and I decided to escape 'Quakeschurch' for a few days and headed down to Queenstown. We had a fantastic time on our roadtrip so I decided to make a video documenting some of our antics. Enjoy x

topshop olive clogs in blue |
Finally! The platform clogs I ordered from Topshop weeks ago arrived (they are a pre-shoe-buying-suspension purchase). Although they took so long to get here, they are well worth the wait so I thought they deserved to be blogged about. I love how 70's they are, and as soon as I put them on I found myself singing ABBA, craving crochet and wishing my hair was still insanely long x

If Marc Jacobs was a drug, Shopbop would be my dealer. Shopbop always have such a fantastic array of Marc by Marc Jacobs collections, and with free international shipping, they are only fuelling my addiction. I've been lusting over the MBMJ 'technical accessories' for quite some time now and yesterday I received my parcel with the star earbuds and two iphone cases. Not only are these gadgets infinitely cool, but my purchase is also justified by the fact they are practical useful. Fashion and function with a touch of luxury...what more could I ask for x
PS If you like what you see, check out this link for a purple dreamy logo cover

I've always been a tad obsessed with collars, even more so since Miu Miu's Spring 2010 collection, and few weeks ago I found this beauty on Topshop. I love the cute peterpan style paired with the intricate beading, and it really is the perfect accessory of the moment. A welcome alternative to a necklace, this collar can be worn with anything from a t-shirt, to an LBD for a touch of aristocratic class. Now that I have a lot of spare time on my hands (thanks earthquake) I've been inspired to create some collars of my own. Look out for a DIY post in the next few days x

Sorry I haven't posted in so long, but over the past week I have been somewhat of a 'displaced person'. Last Tuesday I left for the cinema, and didn't make it home until 5 days later. This was due to a huge 6.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Christchurch leaving the centre of town and many homes devastated, and looking like a war zone. Unfortunately, not only buildings and possessions were lost as the earthquake also claimed many lives. I was driving at 12.51pm when the earthquake hit and it took me a while to realise what was happening, at first I thought I had a flat tyre or had driven into a big pothole. It wasn't until I looked up and saw the buildings shaking violently, people running into the street and a large crack open in the road beside me, that I knew what I was in the middle of. Thankfully, I was not in the worst hit area (CBD) at the time...although 10 minutes earlier it would have been a different story. When the phone lines finally freed up I was so relieved to hear that my friends and family were all okay. Being pretty close to the epicentre, after the event the power, water and sewage was out at my house and stayed that way for several days, so Jess was super-kind and adopted me during my 'displacement'. Now I'm back at home, which I'm glad to say has held up pretty well. Even though there is a big clean up ahead and we're still without water and facilities, I can't complain too much as others have lost a lot more than me. It's hard to believe that something like this could happen to my home, and so surreal to see the images of the places and landmarks I knew so well, now in ruins x
